In an initiative known as the Open Technology Development (OTD) project, the US Defense Department asked Linux vendors Red Hat and Novell--along with OEMs, chipmakers, systems integrators, and "non-traditional" open source companies--for feedback that would help shorten the learning curve toward open source deployment within the agency."
